The size of the State Executive Council is expected to grow by at least four members this month, as the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike forwarded names of 4 commissioner nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly.

This was made public through a radio announcement sponsored by the legislative house, inviting the four nominees for screening on Tuesday, 20 March, 2018 at 10:00am. The commissioner nominees are; Mrs. Nancy Nwankwo, Hon. Michael West, Hon. Chinyere Igwe, and Dr. Reason Onya.

Hon. Chinyere Igwe was the former Commissioner for Urban Development, and was among the state cabinet when it was dissolved in June 2017. Dr. Reason Onya is a Board member of the Governing Council of the Rivers State University. Nancy Nwankwo was appointed in 2015 as the board member of the Rivers State Micro-finance Agency. Hon. Michael West was a Governorship aspirant in the 2015 PDP primaries.

It is expected that the commissioner nominees will be inaugurated, and assigned a ministry this month, or early in April if they are confirmed by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The Governor in an unexpected move, dissolved his cabinet in June 2017. He later reappointed some and a few new commissioners in September.

The Assembly will also screen nominees for the Caretaker Committee in Degema Local Government Area, made up of a chairman and six members.
